Many years ago, fresh out of art school, I found a job I loved: a visual merchandiser. I remember one winter, in the empty windows of a department store, I used wire mesh, rope, and denim to create a Christmas tree covered in snowflakes. People often say visual merchandising is the "eternal three minutes," but I always returned to the "magic moment" after the doors opened, when customers' eyes fell on my carefully arranged window display. A little girl curiously played with the Christmas tree, tearing off a snowflake. Although she ruined my carefully arranged Christmas tree, the smile on the child's face was 100% happiness. At that moment, I understood that imperfection is also perfection.
Five years ago, I discovered a Baroque pearl in the antique market on Charles Bridge in Prague. Its asymmetrical curves echoed the faded spoon the shopkeeper's grandmother used to stir absinthe. Like the lights in a midnight gallery, it transformed something seemingly imperfect into a unique aurora.
The Baroque pearl within me has begun to take shape.
